The skill set includes more than twenty techniques. Dual blades are only available in SAO to the player who has the fastest reaction time.
Claymore
From Claymore
Not only is the anime called Claymore, but the name of the type of sword is claymore too. These anime swords are large and have double-edged. They also have a sharpened edge. Claymore comes from the Scottish Gaelic term “claidheamh mor,” which translates to “great sword.” Each of these anime swords is customized with their owner’s symbol at the base of the blade.
Murasame
From Akame ga Kill!
Murasame is also known as the one-cut killer. It’s a long katana that Akame wields. The blade of this anime sword is extremely poisonous and can cause severe burns to the skin. Akame takes care when cleaning the blade, which is a sign that this blade can be dangerous. This is a trump card that allows the user to cut themselves. If they survive the poison, their speed or strength will be increased.
Kurikara
From Ao no Exorcist (Blue Exorcist)
Rin Okumura wields the demon slaying sword Kurikara, which also contains his sealed away demon heart and powers. The sword unleashes Rin’s demonic powers when it is not sheathed. When sheathed, they are sealed away. Rin’s powers will become more demon-like the less control he has. Rin will never let go of his Kurikara, which is one of the most powerful anime swords.
Tessaiga
From InuYasha
The Tessaiga is one of the most famous anime swords on this list, made out of Inuyasha’s father’s tooth. Although it appears to be a regular katana at first, when properly used, it transforms into an enormous blade. Its two most well-known offensive attack specialties include ‘Wind Scare’ (Kaze no Kizu), as well as ‘Backlash Wave” (Bakuryuuha). Each technique can be used to eliminate multiple demons at the same time. Side note: The sword can only be transformed if the wielder has ‘yoki, or demonic energy, and if they care for people.
Sword of Dios
From Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena)
In Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena), the sword of Dios is obtained by Utena when she pulls the blade out of the chest of Anthy Himemiya, a ‘Rose Bride.’ This is one of the most ordinary anime swords, but the rose bride can give the blade extra strength, greatly increasing it’s power.
Miroku
From Mai-HiME (My-Hime)
Miroku is a massive, black claymore that’s dragged across the ground behind Mikoto since it’s so big and she’s so small. Mikoto, despite being small, is able to handle the sword well. This is an anime sword that only the most skilled warriors can use.
Toyako Bokuto
From Gintama
Contrary to the majority of other anime swords that are made from copper or metal, the Toyako Bokuto is a wooden sword crafted from the bark of a ten thousand year old tree from a distant planet. Although it has a plain appearance, this anime sword can cut though anything, which is fitting given that it’s a Hoshikudaki which translates to ‘Star Destroyer.’
Zanpakuto
From Bleach
Zanpakuto, or ‘soul-cutting sword,’ literally has the power to cut through spiritual bodies. Since they are made of the souls their owners, Zanpakuto can take on different personalities. Names of living spirits give strength and power to the Zanpakuto sword. This is one of my favorite anime.
Ea
From Fate/stay night
Ea, also known as Sword of Rupture, has a dull tip, but that doesn’t take away from its effective features. Ea can still penetrate an opponent’s vitals even though it has a dull tip. This anime sword can only be owned by Gilgamesh, as it was made for rulers.
Double Edged Tsurugi
From Samurai Champloo
The double-edged Tsurugi has a curved blade and hilt with two prongs and acts as Mugen’s main weapon. The Okinawan Sai, which is a Japanese sword with metal prongs, appears to have been combined with a Japanese katana. Mugen’s unique fighting style makes it difficult for a blade to be effective in simple attacks.
Ragnarok
From Soul Eater
Ragnorok is a living being that serves as a weapon to Crona. Her black blood makes the sword and infuses it with power, speed, and frequency waves that assist in attacks. The unique design of the anime sword is its hilt, which protrudes out spikes. There are also a pair lips that rise above the spikes. This allows for high frequency wails.
Dimensional Sword (Jigen Tou)
From Yuu☆Yuu☆Hakusho (Yu Yu Hakusho: Ghost Files)
The dimensional split sword allows Kuwabara to cut through dimensional barriers. The dimensional sword can function independently of his spirit sword which relied on his spirit energy.
Scissor Blade
From Kill la Kill
Ryuuko possesses one scissor blade of the rendering scissors. The blade is longer than normal scissors and can be used to make a more deadly blade. Ryuuko’s last move in battle allows his blade to grow even further and allow him to execute the decapitation method.
Sakabato (Reverse-Blade Sword)
From Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan
The Sakabato or the, ‘Reverse Blade Sword’, is designed to not kill the opponent. This katana was made to help Kenshin forgive his past while also helping others in need of his sword skills. This sword was created to bring in the new Meiji era of peace and Kenshin’s vow to never take another life.
Dragon Slayer
From Berserk
This anime sword is the Dragon Slayer, a larger than life type of sword that has no problem wiping out soldiers and demons. Berserk best describes it: “It wasn’t big enough, too thick, or too heavy and too long.” It looked more like a block of iron. This outlook suggests that the anime blade is primitive.
Laevatein (Demon Blade of Flame)
From Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A’s
Laevatein, also known as ‘demon blade of flame,’ has the ability to take on different forms, such as a chain link blade. You can also use it to perform special attacks such as the ‘Rising Phoenix Flash,’ which sends a fiery tornado at your enemy or the ‘Fire Phoenix Flash,’ which creates pockets of flames and throws them at your enemy. This is one of most beautiful and magical anime swords.
Mugen
From Dr. Gray Man
Mugen or ‘Six Illusions’, is a sword instilled with supernatural powers wielded by Kanda. It comes from ‘Innocence’. This is a power Kanda uses in order to defeat demons. This anime sword is able to increase its own strength, and when activated it turns silver.
Singer’s Sword

The Singer’s anime sword is a massive broadsword that’s twice as long as she is tall. The sword is powerful and can slash everything it comes across, even robots. Shu must take the sword from Inori’s chest to use it, a la Revolutionary Girl Utena.
Wado Ichimonji
From One Piece
Wado Ichimonji is roughly translated to the ‘straight road of harmony’ and is a highly valued anime sword. The suguha is the straight blade. Zoro Roronoa uses this sword to attack his enemies. He puts the hilt in the mouth and then cuts it.
