Eyelash Extension Care: Tips On Catching Zzz’s With Lash Extensions

Sleeping with lash extensions: Should you sleep on your back? Do you need a specific pillowcase or mask?

Today, we’re answering this eyelash extension care question with some great tips from our training tribe here at The Lash Lounge!

HOW TO SLEEP

When you have eyelash extensions, you can take care of your eyelash extensions by catching your zzz’s on your back. This will ensure that your precious lashes stay in place and are not tugged during the nights when you’re tossing around.

If you’re not a back sleeper, we know it may be tough for you. If sleeping on your side is how you’re most comfy, then that’s A-ok, too! It is common for side sleepers to notice a few lashes in their pillows from time-to-time.

HOW NOT TO SLEEP

Stomach sleepers, we have some bad news: When it comes to caring for your eyelash extensions, your fave sleep position and lash extensions.

You can get the longest life from your lashes by not sleeping on your stomach. This position can trap your lashes between your pillow and you, making it difficult to maintain their shape.

PILLOW TALK

What you have heard is true: The type of pillowcase you choose can have an effect on your lashes.

Cotton Pillowcases

So, what’s the deal with a usual cotton pillowcase? A cotton pillowcase may feel extremely soft, but it can cause friction between your lashes, the material, and cotton, which leads to premature lash shed.

Silk Pillowcases

This brings us to silk pillowcases! When you have eyelash extension, it is a good idea to rest your head and lashes on silk pillows. It will allow your extensions and your lashes to glide on the pillowcase while you sleep. You will also be able to avoid your lashes from getting pulled or caught as with a cotton pillowcase.

Here are some more awesome benefits of sleeping on a silk pillowcase:

  • It’s better for the hair on your head due to all the tossing and turning you may due at night.
  • Silk pillowcases can prevent wrinkles from appearing, help keep your skin smooth, and even prevent you from getting acne.

EYE MASK: HOW DO THEY HELP YOU?

Many of our guests are often curious if it is wise to use an eye mask when sleeping. We asked Ambrielle, our incredible corporate trainer, about this topic. She shared, “I have mixed emotions about using masks with lash extensions. The wrong kind of mask can cause more damage than good (e.g. Smashing the lashes, retention problems, etc. However, I would recommend the right kind of mask where the socket area is beveled out so there is no direct contact with the mask and the lash extensions.”

So, there you have it! You can sleep on your side or on your back, and still keep your lashes in place. So, the next time someone asks you how to care for eyelash extensions, you’ll be a sleeping expert!
