Planning a First Birthday Photography Session

First Birthday Photography Session: 1 year

1. The Location Planning begins with deciding whether you want to hold the session indoors in my studio or outdoors.  a One year session of photography. Outdoor locations have the best lighting around an hour before sunset so we’d recommend meeting at least two hours before the sunset to start our session. Depending on the time of year, this might be past your little one’s bedtime, and might not be the happiest time of the day. In these cases, I recommend an indoor session. a  session

2. Backgrounds/Sets This type of session usually involves 2-3 sets/backgrounds. I usually have at least two sets prepared for you when you arrive.

Portraits of your baby wearing clothes will be the first shots we take a Pretty outfit a Traditional portraits of a couple on their first birthday.

If the baby is cooperative and happy, and time permits, I’ll change the backdrop as you take a Few minutes to change your baby’s outfit

Then for the finale, we’ll do the cake smash set where we typically do as mash. The session will end depending on how it goes. a Baby-in bubbles is a clean-up type shot.

3. Outfits Remember that solid colors are the best for photography. Avoid logos and patterns that are too busy as they can distract from your main subject.

The cake smash attire is usually a The suspender and Jeans outfit is very cute. a Cover diapers with other accessories a Bow tie is great for boys. For girls a You can use a cute romper, lacey dress, fluffy tutu, or pearls.

You are welcome to borrow many of my outfits for girls and boys. I would love to see your outfits. aIt would be useful to have a picture to help coordinate the backdrop with props.

A custom onesie with “ONE” can also be incorporated into the outfit. Etsy has tons of options is you search for “cake smash outfit.”

3. Theme and Decorations can organize the decorations if we have coordinated the colors and themes ahead of time. I am a planner. a variety of props and decorations that we can use, including: banners, backdrops, tissue paper puffs, balloons & lots of seating.

I usually create. if I have sufficient notice, I can create a custom banner using the colors selected for the session.

3. Cake Smash. You can also decide if you want to incorporate. a Cake smashing into the session You’d need to bring the cake. a There are many options for cake stands.

Based on my experience, I avoid colored frosting. Red, brown, and darker colored frostings, as well as chocolate cake (which looks like dirt on their faces).

Although professionally-made cakes look better, I have also seen wonderful homemade cakes. I’d be happy to share some contacts for cakes!

4. How to prepare for the Session .After the session, schedule it. a Naps are often a great way to relax. a Happy baby. Be happy. a Regular schedule as much as possible on the day of the session.

Have some puffs, cheerios or your baby’s favorite dry finger food on hand to stuff into the cake in case they need help being a It’s a topic that I am much more interested in. You can also have a Keep a sippy cup close at your baby’s side in case he or she gets thirsty.

of  Sometimes, find the texture of the icing strange. Some babies don’t like it at all and get upset when it won’t easily wipe off, while some babies are very interested in it and have a Lots un.

It is a good idea to allow your baby to have some cake the week before the session. They will soon be able to enjoy the cake without having to go through the exploration phase.

5. What to Expect during the Session.

First Year photos are so much fun. Babies have so much personality. However, these sessions are not for everyone. a lot of energy.

Due to the nature of the age, it’s usually best to plan to have at least two adults at the session. To help capture those beautiful smiles and help with logistics, bring someone who is a bit silly.

The developmental really varies at one, as some babies aren’t walking yet and other are full throttle ahead! It tends to be a These sessions require a lot of effort age m adults, so we keep them in place until they get the shot.

We often try to include a chalkboard into the set up, and then after the session I will “photoshop” on the information to the chalkboard.
