Call it Cornhole. You can call it Bean Bag Toss, Bags, or Bag Toss. Play this fun game as many times as you want. You will never stop playing this game. It was only after I became involved with Slick Woody’s Cornhole Company as an Inbound Marketer, that I found myself totally addicted to tossing the bags.
Yes! The game of throwing a resin- or corn-filled bag board that has a hole in it is a classic one. Beans are sometimes used in the bags.
This game is played where?
Cornhole has been popular throughout the South and in the Upper Midwest since forever. It is now the most popular game in America, with its popularity growing in bars in Brooklyn and trendy spots in SoCal.
Our game is most commonly played while tailgating at sporting events. It is also known as Tailgate Toss, or The Tailgate Game. Nearly every college and professional football stadium parking lot will have people playing cornhole. Pre-game in America is all about the smells of barbecue and the popping of cans and bottles.
The backyard picnic is another popular spot to throw the cornhole bags. The cooler is full and the brats are ready to go on the grill. Backyard Toss (or Lawn Toss) games have already started.
What are some lesser-known names for our game, and why?
Soft Horseshoes, Hillbilly Toss, and Soft Horseshoes are some other names I have heard. Although this lawn game is known by many names, it is beloved by all for its skill. Cornhole is similar to bocce, metal horseshoes and old standards lawn bowling. To beat your opponents, you need patience.
Many people and companies have attempted to claim the cornhole identity, using names like Baggo and Chuck-O. Others have put a personal spin on it with names such as Doghouse (pretty obvious metaphor), Dadhole (don’t ask me), and Dummy Boards (hopefully not talking about me).
