It’s common for a bumper cover to come loose after a while. Usually it’s because of vibration, a minor impact, or just aging.
When a bumper cover comes loose, it loses its ability to provide adequate protection. The good news is that you don’t have to replace the whole bumper cover. Depending on what the issue is, you can either replace the broken part(s) or install bumper quick releases.
Which option is the best one? First, let’s pinpoint what’s causing the issue.
How to Figure Out Why Your Bumper Cover Came Loose
There are four possible reasons your bumper cover is loose:
- Broken clip: A clip slides into a bumper cover clip mount, and the tip of it sticks into the body of the car.
- Broken mounting tab: A tab is plastic welded onto the bumper cover, and protrudes into the body or grille.
- Broken clip mount: Clip mounts are molded into the inside of the bumper cover, and they look like slots.
- Broken bolt hole: After an impact, bolt holes in the bumper cover are sometimes ripped away from the bolt. They can become damaged enough that the bolt won’t hold anymore.
To find out which one(s) it is, gently pull on the loose portion of the bumper cover and then look behind it. You should be able to identify which part is broken.
Repairing Broken Bumper Cover Clips
If you find that you have a broken clip, the good news is that you should be able to purchase a replacement at your car dealer. Replacing a bumper cover clip is pretty easy, and it can be done in a few minutes without any special tools.
What If you have a broken mounting tab, clip mount, or bolt hole
If you have a broken mounting tab, clip mount, or bolt hole, the bad news is that these are not directly repairable. You have two basic options:
1. Buy a New Bumper Cover
The most obvious option is to throw away the old bumper cover and then buy a brand new one. It’s a pretty costly option, and the installation process can be tricky and time-consuming. You can save a bit of money with an aftermarket bumper cover, but you’ll probably run into quality and fitment issues.
Luckily, there’s an easier and more affordable option:
2) Buy All-Fit Bumper Quick Releases
Installing All-Fit bumper quick releases is the much more affordable option. You don’t have to spend hundreds on a new bumper cover. Instead, get a set quick releases. These will hold the bumper cover securely on your car. Of course, quick releases are designed for people who want to easily remove and reattach their bumper cover. But, they are also a great way to fix loose bumper covers.
Cost is not the only advantage of using quick releases. Quick releases can improve the look of your car’s nose. Your bumper cover will not crack if you have quick releases. If something hits the bumper cover, the quick releases are flexible enough to let the cover move up or down instead of breaking.
