Give it a good shake
Do you hear a little ball rolling around each time you shake your eyeliner pen? It’s a small metal ball that is used to mix the contents of your eyeliner pen. It is important to shake your eyeliner before each use, and if you haven’t been doing so already, we suggest you start now. This helps to make the product glide off the pen-tip easily and prevents streaky application.
Run it on the back of your hand
Another tip to bring dried eyeliner back to life is to run the tip of the eyeliner pencil on the back of your hand or inner wrist. This will warm the product, allowing it to glide better. For felt-tipped liners you can also run it on a dampened paper towel.
Dip it in hot water
The best ways to store your eyeliner is vertical, at room temperature with the tip facing down or the tube lying flat. It can become difficult to use and lumpy over time. To prevent this from happening, place the eyeliner tip-side-down in warm water for a few seconds. To get the eyeliner to glide smoothly, take it out and give it another shake.
Eye drops make all the difference
If you are using a gel eyeliner (the ones that usually come in a pot), then it tends to harden pretty quickly. This can be fixed by adding a few drops to an over-the-counter dropper to the eyeliner. Apply a few drops to the dry eyeliner. Then, use your regular liner brush and mix the product until you get the desired consistency. You can also use the same technique to dry out mascara.
Try some unscented body moisturiser
Reviving a cream-based eyeliner can be a little tricky as a slightly wrong step could ruin the colour or finish of the product. But here’s something you could do – add a drop or two of an unscented body moisturiser of your choice to the container and mix it with your eyeliner brush. Although this isn’t a permanent solution, it will definitely help increase the lifespan of your favourite eye liner.
