School and September mean “Picture Day!” toMany parents live in the United States. We send our kids off toThey arrived at school with their hair done and a new, sparkling outfit. (We are praying that it looks as good as possible in the pictures).
What happens after we have the prints of these adorable school portraits?
Most of us admire our kids’ pictures for a few days and maybe give some toGrandparents at Christmas. The rest of the prints were eventually forgotten about for years. toPlease visit.
What if you could save those photos from storage? toDisplay in creative and fun ways. Avoid making your child feel embarrassed or uncomfortable when they see you display them.
Here are some creative ways to display school portraits every year.
1. Get a digital file, scan older prints and digitize them
Before you decide how many prints you want to order for school portraits, make sure you read this Consumer Reports article. Their advice? to purchase a smaller, less expensive package that includes the digital download of your child’s photo. You own the copyright to your child’s photo and can print it yourself or share it with other family members via social media.
If you have older prints, it’s still a good idea to archive digital copies. No copyright is required if you scan older photos using your home scanner to archive (not printing or sharing). If you are not sure, ask the photographer for a digital copy. Professional printers and scanning companies will need a copyright release.
Be sure to file all of your saved images in your photo collection either by year or child’s name, and then back them up!
2. Combining several Portraits into one Photo Collage
One way to have fun toDisplay every school year portrait toCombine them in a photo collage. This is another alternative to displaying each year’s photo separately in a regular frame.

The Standard SchoolPhotos for Years These frames can be purchased at WalMart and Amazon, in many different styles. They usually feature a larger middle image with smaller openings for each year’s school portrait. These can be displayed on a desk or wall.
What do you do with those empty spots as your children grow up and change grades? toHow do you grade?
This mom created her own gallery, and filled future frames with printed paper. You can also try this idea with the regular school years frames.

Other CreativeGroups of frames If you frame each year’s portrait individually, you can then group them on the wall or on shelf.
To illustrate the passing of time, frame your child’s school photos around the hands of a clock.
Another idea is to arrange small frames in the shape of the first letter of your child’s name, or geometrically around a display of your child’s initials in large wooden letters.

4. Picture in a Picture
Every child can have their picture taken. However, not all parents order prints. You can choose to have your photo taken instead to take (and display) your own “First Day of School” photo.
If you still have children in school, here’s the steps to this “Picture in a Picture” idea:
- Take a photo of your child on their first day at school.
- You can frame that photo.
- They can then display the framed photograph from the previous year.
- Each successive year, take a picture of your child holding the previous year’s framed photo.
It will be great fun to look back and see how they’ve grown, holding a picture of a picture in each year’s photo.
5. Make a photo book or album
Upload your digital images using the file format. to a site like MPix or Shutterfly, and create a hardback photo book of your child’s school portraits.
You can create an album that is expandable if you prefer. to add pages as your child grows, here’s another idea. We helped one of our clients create a album for each of her three children’s school and sports photos. Each child has a Pioneer 8” x 8” post-bound album. Post-bound albums are books that have been bound together using removable posts and screws.
The new pages were designed by us and printed at Costco on acid-free paper. Our client inserts these pages into PVC free sheet protectors. Then, he takes apart the album and puts them back together.

You can use school portraits to mark a significant milestone such as graduation.
Set slides to create the best effect. toTransition quickly so that each photo is only viewed for one second. This allows you to see how the person has grown up.

You’ll need them down the road for graduations, weddings, or that day when your adult child needs toThe awkward junior high school photo is for a team building project at the office!
It is a good idea to write the name, date, school and other details on the back of the memory box. After that, file the photos into acid-free boxes, or plastic sleeves made from PVC-free materials.
